College of Engineering
Engineering Minds
The College of Engineering is home to the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Programs offered through the college focus on a variety of subject areas including embedded computer systems, signal process, control systems, robotics, manufacturing and human processes, safety, bioengineering, automotive design, alternative energy and much more.

The Dean
Dr. Craig Hoff is the founding Dean of the College of Engineering. He has been a Kettering University faculty member since 1999.
As Dean of the College of Engineering, he oversees Kettering University’s engineering programs that have an impressive legacy and national reputation for producing highly successful graduates. His focus is on developing new and exciting opportunities for Kettering in order to meet the rapidly changing needs of industry partners.
Hoff’s expertise is in energy systems, automotive powertrains, in-vehicle data acquisition, and design for the environment. In addition to serving in faculty and administrative roles at Kettering, Hoff has been a longtime advisor to the University’s Formula SAE team.

Student Teams
The College of Engineering has students actively involved in a variety of competitive teams.
Autodrive
Kettering University is one of eight schools nationwide participating in the AutoDrive Challenge. This newly established, three-year autonomous vehicle competition tasks students to develop and demonstrate a full autonomous driving passenger vehicle.
Formula SAE
Formula SAE at Kettering is a year-long commitment that challenges students to apply their classroom education to research, design, develop and market a formula car in international competitions.
Shell Eco Marathon
Shell Eco-marathon is a competition in the Americas, Europe, and Asia for high school and college students to develop efficient vehicles.
Clean Snowmobile
The Clean Snowmobile competition focuses on conducting high-quality research on methods to reduce snowmobile emissions and sound levels without sacrificing performance.
Baja
Kettering’s Baja team designs and builds an offroad vehicle from scratch in the SAE Garage on campus. The students design all the parts and make them by hand to get their vehicle ready for the main event — a four-hour endurance race going head-to-head on the track with all the other teams.
