Zachary Morgan

Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Zachary Morgan is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Kettering University. His research explores how the structure of materials affects the way they behave, with interests in neutron scattering, crystallography, phase transformations, and computational materials science. He combines experiments and computer modeling to better understand how materials change at the atomic and microstructural levels, including changes in structure and magnetism. He also enjoys developing scientific software and bringing modern computational and industry-relevant tools into the classroom.

Education

Ph.D. 2020, Michigan Technological University
B.S. 2015, Michigan Technological University

  • Computational materials science and engineering
  • Computational mechanics and multiphysics modeling
  • Materials characterization using neutron and X-ray scattering
  • Crystallography and structure-property relationships
  • Phase transformations and microstructure evolution
  • Scientific computing and data analysis
  • Computer-aided engineering and design

My favorite part of being at Kettering is working closely with students and seeing them connect what they learn in the classroom to their co-op experiences and future careers.
