Travis Wheeler

Lecturer of Mathematics

Dr. Travis Wheeler has been teaching mathematics at the university level since 2016, with stops at Central Michigan University, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Travis has worked with a wide variety of courses over his career, including College Algebra, Calculus I, II, & III, Calculus for the Life Sciences, and Business Calculus. As a born-and-raised mid-Michigander, Travis was ecstatic to have the opportunity to return home when he joined the Kettering team in Summer 2026. As for teaching style, Travis emphasizes in-class work/participation. Learning mathematics isn't a spectator sport. Watching Travis do math (or reading AI for that matter) is easy, but being able to do problems on your own is more difficult. Travis' goal is for students to practice not only outside the lecture but in the lecture as well.

Travis enjoys the small university feel of Kettering. He has worked at bigger universities in the past, and it's more difficult to learn students' and co-workers' names. At Kettering, learning student names AND professional interests feels significantly easier and almost inevitable.

Travis is an avid pool (billiards) player. Travis also enjoys watching sports and attending live sporting events.
