Dr. Terence Pitre started at Kettering University in June 2025.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a major in Finance from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, his MBA with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Tulane University, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Accounting from Michigan State University.

Before entering academia, Dr. Pitre held various accounting roles at corporate giants, including International Paper Co., Brown & Williamson Tobacco (now part of British American Tobacco), and Kimberly-Clark Corporation.  He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on active duty aboard the USS Charleston (LKA-113) and in the Navy Reserve in both enlisted and officer capacities.

His research interests focus on financial disclosures in accounting.  Recent projects examine both the economic and psychological impacts of financial disclosures on non-professional investor decision-making.  He is passionate about advancing accounting education through the use of Harvard case studies and active learning techniques in the classroom.

Dr. Pitre currently serves as Faculty Advisor for the Black Student Union and the National Society of Black Engineers.  A New Orleans native, he has traveled to Spain, Italy, France, Cuba, Colombia, and Peru.  In his free time, he enjoys wine tasting, barbecuing, grilling, and perfecting his recipe for gumbo.  He is also a Spring 1990 initiate of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. Fraternity, Theta Nu Chapter.  He served as chapter Polemarch and Regional Polemarch of the Southwest Region.
