What is Success Through 4S?

Success Through 4S is a program designed to support first-generation and Pell-eligible students, will provide you with a community of faculty, staff and students who are dedicated to walking alongside you on your journey to graduation.

Main Program Goals

Success Through 4S is a program designed to support students through the journey of achieving higher education. We walk alongside of you on your path to graduation. By participating in Success Through 4S, students have a community of faculty, staff, and peers dedicated to ensuring success while at Kettering! Our main program goals will help students achieve the following:

• Increased grade point average.
• Advancement in academic standing from year to year.
• Increased acceptance into majors.
• Increase graduation rates. 

Program Eligibility

• You may be eligible to participate in Success Through 4S if you are:
  • Economically Disadvantaged: Must meet income-based requirements determined by federal guidelines on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Generally, this includes students who qualify/receive the federal Pell Grant.
  • AND/OR
    • Academically Disadvantaged
    • First-Generation College Student: Student whose parents did not attend a four-year institution of higher education immediately following high school. 
    • Resident of the State of Michigan

Success Through 4S is part of Kettering University's Student Experience Department. This program is funded by a six year Select Student Support Services (4S) grant which is administered via Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and the Special Programs Initiative. The goal of the Special Programs Initiative is to increase the number of Michigan's academically- or economically-disadvantaged citizens who have the opportunity to complete college degrees and experience career success as active participants in a knowledge-based global economy.
