Associate Professor, Industrial Engineering

Dr. Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj is an Associate Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Kettering University. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and his B.E. (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani, India. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing, with particular emphasis on additive manufacturing, electrochemical manufacturing, process modeling, simulations, and materials engineering. Dr. Kamaraj has authored more than 30 journal and conference publications and has received several awards, including the Best Ph.D. Dissertation Award from the University of Cincinnati, Outstanding Teaching award from IISE manufacturing division, and the BITSAA Global 30 Under 30 Award for Academic Research. At Kettering, he teaches materials, manufacturing, and design courses, mentors undergraduate and graduate researchers, and advises student club activities. He has secured and managed several federal and industry research projects totaling more than $1.3 million.

My favorite aspect of being a faculty member at Kettering is the opportunity to combine hands-on engineering education with applied research. Working closely with students on industry-relevant projects allows me to help them develop practical problem-solving skills while contributing to innovative manufacturing technologies. Also, seeing the students develop into outstanding engineers over the course of their studies is always wonderful and keeps me motivated.

Outside of Kettering, I enjoy traveling around the world and the country, especially visiting national parks. I also enjoy supporting student robotics and manufacturing clubs.
