Web Browser Proxy Settings

All machines will have access to the internet through a proxy.
For newer versions of Firefox, do the following:

  • Click [Tools] => [Options].
  • Click [Advanced] tab.
  • Click [Network] tab.
  • Click [Settings].
  • Select the [Auto-detect proxy settings for this network] radio button.
  • Click [OK] twice.

For newer versions of MSIE, do the following:

  • Click [Tools] => [Internet Options].
  • Click on the [Connections] tab.
  • Click on [LAN Settings] at the bottom right.
  • Click the [Automatically detect settings] check box.
  • Click [OK] twice.

If you are using an older version of Firefox or Internet Explorer or another browser that does not support "Auto-detect Settings", you must give the following for an automatic configuration script: http://wpad.kettering.edu/wpad.dat

If you are using an older version of Internet Explorer or another browser (such as Netscape) that does not support automatic configuration, you must give the following for the proxies: cache.kettering.edu port 3128.  You must tell your browser to not use proxy for jweb.kettering.edu (Banner/student enrollment) and bbapp.kettering.edu (Blackboard).

Note For Laptop Users

When taking your laptop off campus remember to uncheck the use proxy.
