My most memorable work term experience has to be when I was extracting and purifying bacterial DNA and all of the sudden my chloroform turned translucent from transparent and I was shocked. I turned to the nearest chemist. Dr. Rabago-Smith asked me what method I was using to transfer the chloroform? I replied using a micropipette. Her response was "I hope that wasn't the stock...?" I replied "of course not, I made an aliquot." I asked why? Her response: "Chloroform melts plastic..." My response "thank god for organic chemists."
