Dr. Scott Grasman has been named department head of the Kettering University Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.
Grasman previously spent six years as professor and department head of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and the prior 10 years in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
"I am extremely pleased to have Dr. Grasman join the College of Engineering leadership team. His many years of experience as a department head at RIT are a tremendous asset for the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and for the College. I believe that his leadership will bring many positive changes,” said Dr. Craig Hoff, Dean of College of Engineering.
Grasman has also served as an adjunct professor of Operations and Manufacturing Management in the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed a sabbatical in Statistics and Operations Research at the Public University of Navarre in Spain and a two month appointment as Visiting Research Scholar at IN3 – Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.
He received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. Grasman has been the principal investigator on numerous funded research projects in the areas workforce planning, production/logistics systems, and alternative energy infrastructure modeling/simulation.
His research also addresses engineering education, sustainability in engineering curriculum, vehicle electrification, alternative energy graduate programs, as well as need-based programs for transfer and dual degree students. He has authored or co-authored over 100 technical papers, including multiple best conference paper awards, as well as reviewer/editorial roles for various technical journals and books. He has received multiple awards for teaching, research and service.
Grasman is originally from Muskegon, Michigan. He, his wife, Kellie, and their three sons, Henry, Davis and Grant now live in Flushing, Michigan.
