Two companies from Grand Rapids have been honored for their support and service to Kettering's co-op students. ATEK Medical Corp. is the Employer of the Year and Dematic Corp. is the recipient of the Heritage Award.

Two Grand Rapids companies, ATEK Medical Corp. and Dematic Corp., received special recognitions from Kettering University during a corporate partner appreciation reception May 12 at the Centennial Country Club in Grand Rapids.

Frank Hribar, Kettering vice president of Enrollment Services, said the University is very appreciative of the investment and support the companies are providing in developing tomorrow's business leaders for West Michigan.  Hribar hosted the event.  Dr. Michael Harris, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, presented the two awards.

ATEK Medical Corp. received the Employer of the Year Award.  ATEK has actively hired Kettering co-op students since 2005 and currently employs six students.  "We appreciate that ATEK consistently provides positions for our students and has made an exceptional commitment to the development of students and future technical talent for the region," Hribar stated, adding that ATEK only employs Kettering co-op students even with the wealth of talented students at other West Michigan universities.

Dematic Corp. received the Heritage Award for its long-standing and ongoing work with co-op students and for the company's partnership and support of the University's professional co-op program.  Dematic Corp., formerly Rapistan, has a strong tradition and devoted commitment for hiring Kettering co-op students, Hribar said.  "Dematic's long-time relationship with Kettering is a symbol to its investment in this region and so we honor Dematic with a Heritage Award.  It is a modest tribute to their community involvement and forward-thinking company philosophy."

Past recipients of the Employer of the Year Award include Gill Industries, Cascade Engineering, Dematic, Steelcase, UPS-Michigan and Flexco-Grand Rapids.
