Fall 2015 FIRST Robotics Workshops

FIRST Robotics students and mentors are invited to attend a series of workshops related to team development, scouting and programming.

The workshops will be held at the FIRST Robotics Community Center at Kettering University. Contact Mark Taylor at mtaylor@kettering.edu or 810-762-9855 to RSVP for the workshops. There is no cost to attend.

Awards
Saturday, October 10
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Attendees of the workshop will receive training in chairman's outreach and gracious professionalism, design assistance with CAD illustrations and keeping a good engineering notebook, and tips on how to best communicate with judges.


Team Organization
Saturday October 10
12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The workshop will identify challenges and strategies to deal with small and large teams as well as ways in which technical mentors, students leaders, parents and grandparents and other relatives can be engaged in FIRST Robotics.


Robot Mechanics
Tuesday, October 13
6 to 8 p.m.

Attendees of the workshop will receive training in:

  • Drivetrain, manipulators and arms
  • Gear and sprocket ratios
  • Mechanical advantage
  • Torque
  • Power curve
  • Wheels and axles

Scouting The Competition
Saturday, October 17
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Attendees of the workshop will receive training in:

  • Pit scouting
  • Evaluating qualifying matches
  • Adapting strategies based on scouting

Drive Team Coaching
Saturday, October 17
12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Attendees of the workshop will receive training on defining roles for both drivers, human errors and assigning backup responsibilities.

Programming in LabVIEW (Beginner)
Saturday, November 7
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants will learn how to write and deploy base code to make a robot chassis move and control the motors of a FIRST robot.


Programming in LabVIEW (Advanced)
Saturday, November 7
12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will learn how to write and deploy code for pneumatics, sensors and LEDs. PID loops will also be discussed.


Programming in C++ (Beginner)
Tuesday, November 10
6 to 8 p.m.
