Women of the 21st Century will get a jump on technology at Kettering when girls in seventh through eleventh grades explore computers, engineering principles, chemistry, robotics, mathematics and plastics in a fun way at two summer enrichment programs in July and August. Both programs are designed to show girls that science, engineering and mathematics can be exciting, fun and rewarding.

KAMP KETTERING:
Girls in seventh and eighth grades (in Fall 2002) can attend one of two sessions of Kamp Kettering, Aug. 5-9 or Aug. 12-16, on campus. From 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, girls will participate in hands-on experiments in Kettering labs and work with computers. In addition, girls will get to meet and talk with professional women for a first-hand look at careers in science, math and engineering.

Kamp Kettering costs $100 and includes instruction fees, supplies, equipment, field trips and lunch. Scholarships are available. The application deadline is April 15. No previous experience in computers, chemistry, physics or engineering is required to participate.

21ST CENTURY WOMEN:
Girls in ninth through twelfth grades (in Fall 2002) will expand on the Kamp Kettering model in the 21st Century Woman program July 22-Aug. 2, with more challenging hands-on experiments in laboratories and with computers, field trips and professional career panels.

The 21st Century Woman program costs $200 and includes instruction fees, supplies, equipment, field trips and lunch. Scholarships are available. The application deadline is April 15. No previous experience in computers, chemistry, physics or engineering is required to participate.

For more information about these programs for girls, contact Virginia Hill, coordinator of Kettering's Pre-College Programs, at (810) 762-9873.

Kamp Kettering and the 21st Century Woman program are sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and the Women's Resource Center at Kettering University, and the Genesee Area Math and Science Technology Program.
