Admission Requirements

All application requirements are reviewed holistically by the academic department.

Kettering University does not discriminate by reason of an individual’s race, color, sex, creed, age, handicap, or national origin. No one is admitted to a Kettering University Graduate Program without a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. university/college or it’s International equivalent.

MBA with Engineering Concentrations

Applicants into the MBA program with a concentration in engineering must possess a Bachelor of Science degree from an approved ABET-accredited engineering program.

Additional International Application Requirements

International applicants must also provide the following documents:

International applicants for on-campus programs must document their ability to meet all educational and living expenses for the entire period of intended study. You must complete and submit the following documents:

  • Bank statement in U.S. currency reflecting a minimum of $48,480 in a checking or savings account.
  • If your educational expenses will be funded by a parent or family member, you will also need to provide an Affidavit of Financial Support.
  • If being issued an educational loan you must submit a copy of the award letter.
  • Please keep in mind, we must receive your documents approximately six weeks prior to the start of your term.

  • It is highly recommended that applicants with international credentials submit a professional evaluation. We advise that you use Educational Perspectives but you may select any service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). Credential evaluations expedite the decision process and assist in determining funding award offers. In some cases, international students may be required to submit a credential evaluation -- the Admissions Office will contact students when an evaluation is required. This evaluation will be at the expense of the student.
  • Credentials not issued in English must be translated by a professional translation service such as any found here:
  • Kettering University undergraduate students do not need to submit their Kettering transcripts, but are required to submit transcripts from any other university.
  • For Indian credentials, consolidated marksheets are not acceptable. Please provide individual marksheets except in the case of those coming from any of the IITs.
  • Upon matriculation you will be required to submit final official transcripts and degree certificates.

Letter of Recommendation

If required for your program, you will be prompted to enter email addresses of those individuals providing your letters of recommendation. Kettering University will contact these individual directly to provide a recommendation letter. Alternatively, these individuals may email free-form letters of recommendation to

Standardized Tests

The GRE General Section is required for applicants to the Master of Science Engineering program. GRE scores more than five years old are not valid and will not be accepted. Kettering University's institution code is 1246. If asked to choose a department code, please choose the one that best fits your intended program. You must have all scores sent directly to the admissions office, photocopies will not be accepted. For graduates of Kettering University, the GRE requirement is waived.

The admissions committee generally look for the following minimum GRE scores:

  • 150 Verbal
  • 160 Quantitative Reasoning
  • 3.0 Analytical Writing

International applicants whose native language is not English and who have not earned a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. institution are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), MELAB (offered by University of Michigan), or complete level 112 at an approved ELS center. Please have official scores sent to Kettering University's Office of Admissions, Code 1246. Photocopies will not be accepted.

Our minimum score requirements are:

  • TOEFL (Paper-based) - 550
  • Internet-based - 79
  • IELTS -Minimum Band score of 6.0
  • MELAB -76
