How to become a Kettering tutor

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as a Kettering tutor, an individual who is dedicated to helping fellow students become successful independent learners. The qualifications and responsibilities of subject tutors are as follows:

Qualifications

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum of B+ in a course to be tutored
  • Ability to tutor a minimum of four (4) courses
  • Completion of at least one term at Kettering
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Punctuality, dependability, patience, and adaptability
  • Positive attitude
  • Respect for cultural differences

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students one-on-one and in small groups
  • Ensure accurate reporting of student attendance
  • Participate in professional development each term
  • Follow policies and procedures set by the supervisor
  • Commit to a minimum of six (6) hours of work per week
  • Review content knowledge regularly
  • Expand number of courses tutored as employment extends
  • Perform other duties as assigned
