Swing Weight of a Bat
(Why moment-of-inertia matters more than weight)

As of March 15, 2006 I'm still in the process of writing a detailed Web article explaining what "Swing Weight" is and why moment-of-inertia matter more than the actual weight of a bat, at least as far as the swing speed and the balanced feel during the swing. But in the meantime, I have just submitted a paper entitled "Swing Weight of a Softball Bat" for publication in The Physics Teacher. I've included a link to an electronic (PDF) version of this paper here in order to provide you with something to read while I try to finish the larger, more detailed Web article.
