Parents:
You just helped your little girl move into the Thompson Hall (the dorms)
at Kettering University. You give her a kiss on the cheek, a big
hug, and tell her you are proud of her. You drive off with doubts in
your head, but you know your daughter will make the right decisions
because you raised her well. A few weeks pass; you get phone calls a
few times a week, constant e-mails, and pictures. Within one of
those phone calls and/or emails, you hear your daughter talking about
Alpha Phi. First thing in your mind is Alpha Phi... a
sorority! You want your daughter to stay focused on her education
and not just go out and party like the stereo-typical Greek organizations
you've heard or seen things about whether through movies, TV, or the
news. Don't worry. The key word in that last sentence is
stereo-typical. At Kettering, we are anything but
stereo-typical.
Girls are obviously out-numbered here at Kettering, which means girls are
few and far between. It's hard to hang out with boys all four/five
years of college! We need girl time! Alpha Phi is more than a
sorority. It is a life line to its members. We are here for
our sisters through good times and bad. There is always a shoulder
to cry on or a joke to be cracked.
Parents generally have the same initial questions about Alpha Phi as their
daughters do; financial responsibilities, chapter activities, member
selection, etc. The answers to these types of questions can be found
in the common questions portion of our
website. One issue that parents have more questions on than their
daughters is about the sisters of
Alpha Phi. Parents wonder what kind of girls their daughters are
hanging out with. As a parent, it is okay that you feel that
way. You can only trust that your daughter has a good judge of
character and will be happy with her choices.
If you've made it this far, chances are your daughter has had an
experience with the sisters of Alpha Phi in some way and wanted to openly
explore Greek Life. Keep an open-mind about that. Alpha Phi
not only excels academically, but we are very involved at Kettering
University. You can read about our
chapter and see for yourself!! In addition to multiple academic
and athletic highlights, we also volunteer with different organizations
along with raising money for the Alpha Phi foundation. Our philanthropy
events are a great way to stay involved with the community and bond
with the girls.
Make sure you take a good look around our website. If you have any
more questions or concerns, feel free to contact Laura, the President of
Alpha Phi through email at Conf9249@kettering.edu.
