David WhiteDavid White, Archivist

David joined the Kettering staff in 2001 to head the Scharchburg Archives after serving 24 years at the Sloan Museum in Flint as Curator of its collections. David’s career in history is a result of meeting Richard Scharchburg while volunteering at the Whaley Historical House in Flint in 1975. On Richard’s advice, David, then a student at the University of Michigan, switched from a business major to a history major. David worked closely with Richard on many projects within the Flint community. David is past president of the Whaley Historical House, the Genesee County Historical Society, and is currently the president of the Durant Dort Carriage Company Foundation. He is also a board member of the Flint Downtown Development Authority, as well as Chief Steward  and Treasurer of the Flint Automobile National Heritage Area. David has received numerous awards including the Heritage Day Award from the Genesee County Historical Society, Preservation Award from the Historical Society of Michigan, the 2004 Governors Volunteer Service Award, and the 2010 Governors Preservation Award.

David restores houses in his spare time and maintains his 1958 Buick Roadmaster for cruising in the summer. He recently opened Witherbee’s Market and Deli in downtown Flint.
