Compensation for Additional Teaching Assignments Policy

I. POLICY STATEMENT
An additional teaching assignment for those on a twelve-month (7/8 Plan) appointment will be compensated at a fixed rate per contact hour. An additional teaching assignment for those on a nine-month appointment will be compensated at a fixed rate per contact hour. For teaching performed at the request of the University during a non-teaching term, retirement benefits proportional to the established rate of compensation will be paid. In either of the above instances, this pay will be included in the normal payroll check as it accrues. Should a short-term disability occur, compensation will be provided at the rate of base pay in effect at the time said disability occurs.
The fixed rate per contact hour shall be established prior to each academic year by the Provost as a part of the normal annual university budget process.
II. DEFINITIONS
Additional Teaching Assignment. Teaching performed beyond a faculty member’s normal teaching load during an academic term or off-term, which is mutually agreed upon by the faculty member and the department head.
Non-Teaching Term. A faculty member’s off term, typically one academic term annually for nine-month faculty and one academic term every two years for twelve-month (7/8 Plan) faculty.
III. DETAILS/PROCEDURES
This policy is effective July 1, 2012, revised April 4, 2013 to comply with retirement plan requirements.
IV. POLICY REVIEW
This policy will be reviewed every four-years, with the first review scheduled for March 2016.
