Mission
The mission of Custodial & Grounds Services is to provide services and solutions to support a safe
and attractive learning environment.
Vision
It is Custodial & Grounds Services' vision that Facilities Management will be recognized for providing effective,
economical, and innovative facilities services and solutions through people and systems which are
accessible, friendly and responsive.
Custodial Services Routine Operations:
- Provided Monday through Saturday
- Hours vary, most services 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Emergency response 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
Grounds Services Routine Operations:
- Provided Monday through Friday
- Hours vary, most services 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Emergency response 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
Custodial Services:
Physical Plant has instituted a focused strategy of systematic zoned custodial services by creating teams assigned to specified areas throughout the campus. Custodial Services is responsible for the general cleaning of academic and administrative buildings on campus. Custodial staff are routinely responsible for:
- general cleaning including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, sanitizing and trash removal of academic and administrative spaces;
- window cleaning;
- reporting building and equipment repairs, as noticed while performing other duties;
- snow removal at building entrances and providing ice/snow melt;
- providing entrance mats and runners where needed;
- pest control (inside buildings and facilities); and
- daily interaction with faculty, staff & students.
Tasks not performed by Custodial Services:
- Cleaning of laboratory counter, computer lab counters & faculty/staff desk areas
- Cleaning of department equipment (i.e. computer, AV equipment, etc.)
- Monitoring or maintaining laboratory equipment
- Moving heavy furniture
- Running errands
- Changing lighting (Plant Maintenance)
- Unlocking buildings, offices or rooms (Campus Safety)
- Performing personal service
Special Services:
Custodial Services will do the following special services if requested. There will be a nominal charge involved with these services:
- Upholstery cleaning of non-approved (other than Haworth, Steelcase, Herman Miller) manufactured furniture
- Special events outside routine operational hours (restroom care, maintain trash removal & monitor spills)
- Non-general University funded areas
