Parents' Association Committees

Proposed New Advisory Board Committees (Nov. 17, 2006)

The following six committees have been proposed by the university and the Association officers.  For each one we need a chair, one or two “consultants”, and some interested parents.  (See below for a brief description of responsibilities.)  If you are interested, please contact Keith Kaniut (kkaniut@dsi-solutions.com).

  • Fundraising
  • Career Services/Co-op
  • Technologies (web site, phone conferences, etc.)
  • Special Projects
  • Scholarships
  • Enrollment/Recruiting
Chair:  Organizes/runs the committee.  Reports results to the Advisory Board officers who will distribute the information and solicit any additional help needed.  Works with the university liaison as needed.
Consultant: Someone with the knowledge and expertise required by the committee. Explains options. Helps determine feasibility.  Suggests alternatives.  Helps estimate costs.
Interested Parent: Participates in discussions and provides “reality check” on the proceedings (if needed).  An “ideas” person.
Liaison:  A member of the university staff or faculty who has “volunteered” to act as the point-of-contact within the university.  Usually chosen from the department most likely to be affected or helped by the specific committee.

General Responsibilities

These committees are still “under development”.  Translation: We are still looking for volunteers to man them and make things happen.  This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor and make an impact.

Fundraising Committee

Responsible for developing new fundraising activities and organizing existing activities to support the various events, scholarships, and other services that the Advisory Board and Association have agreed to fund.

Career Services/Co-op Committee

Works with the university’s Cooperative Education Department to develop new partnerships and opportunities for our students.

Technologies Committee

Works with the university’s IT Department to determine the feasibility and cost of new services and web features proposed by the Advisory board and association members.  Will help determine the scope of new features and coordinate their implementation.

Special Projects

This committee will solicit student inputs for the purpose of recognizing outstanding faculty and staff with an annual Parents Association Award.

Scholarship Committee

Recommends selection criteria, reviews applicants, recommends scholarship amounts and identifies budget goals to the Fundraising committee for the award of annual scholarships.

Enrollment/Recruitment Committee

Works with the university’s recruitment department to set up local high school recruitment events as well as other activities that promote a positive awareness of the university and its many desirable features.
