
TEEN SAVVY !


Teen Savvy, a program
for girls in grades 6th - 8th. offers a mentoring relationship with members of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. Mu Phi Chapter.

females in the community and spread it among othe communities.

To gain self-awareness, self-discipline, eduaction and dedication.
To mature and develop into positive young ladies." |
Goals:
- To expose female students to learning everyday and life-long personal and social skills.
- To enhance and strengthen self-esteem and focus on bringing out the full potential of
the young ladies all in an enjoying fun-fined atmosphere.
Objectives:
- To develop and facilitate activities that address the needs of female students.
- To practice techniques that promotes good mannerism and behavior.
- To experience new things and to help create new ideas for our program.
- To instill feelings of unity and understanding.
- To increase effective communication skills within students.
- To expose students to parliamentary and political procedures.
Action Plan:
- To organize a program which helps develop and implement leadership skills.
- To develop, implement, and evaluate activities that improve self-awareness,
positive self-esteem, and serf-discipline.
- To Encourage hands on participation. Sponsor field trips.
- To incorporate speakers and presentations in the learning program.
Participation:
Students participate in weekly meetings that
include the following: warm up exercises, self- development workshops, and practice of stepping
routines. The Teen Savvy program will meet weekly on Tuesdays, 2:45pm -4:00pm in the Center for
Opportunity at Holmes Middle School. There are also weekend workshops, where the girls spend
Saturday and Sunday bonding with eack other and the MU Phi sorors.
Teen Savvy has membership
expectations of good attendance,
maintenance of a 2.0 GPA or Higher, displaying good conduct, being reliable and dependable and
showing creativity and participation.

- November Economic Awareness Month
- December Encouraging Etiquette Month
- January Career Foals Month (trad. or non-trad, gender jobs)
- February African-American History Month
- March Serf- Pride and Sisterhood Month
- April Substance Abuse Awareness Month
- May Intercultural Awareness Month
- June Relax, Relate and Relief Month
Currently there are 22 young ladies that
participate in the Teen Savvy program. Each one of
these girls are special in our eyes. One of the songs they sing for a step routine includes
the line "... and we couldn't do it without the Delta girls..." By being a fairly small chapter
it makes us feel good that we are making such a big impact.
