Student Organizations

The Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives provides services for the following organizations:

Black Unity Congress (BUC)

Whose mission is to:

Building our community so no one can make us fall,

Unifying our members so we can stand tall and

Committing to our hearts' desires to help one and all.

BUC organizes activities to unify, stimulate, and educate students about African-American awareness and other cultures.

  • Promote Black awareness at Kettering University.
  • Provide social and cultural awareness to the Kettering community.
  • Provide educational support to the membership.
  • Increase diversity within the Kettering community.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)

Whose mission is to:

Promote the development of Hispanics in engineering, science and other technical professions and to

Achieve the potential of Hispanics in engineering, math and science.

Statement of Values:

We are brought together by heritage, social responsibility and desire to improve the equality of all people through the use of science and technology. We value excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership. We obtain excellence through integrity, empowerment, and achievement, diversity and continuous improvement.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

Whose mission is to:

Increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

NSBE is comprised of more than 270 chapters on college and university campuses, 75 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide and 75 Pre-College chapters. These chapters are geographically divided into six regions.

The objectives of the organization are to:

  • Stimulate and Develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines
  • Strive to increase the number of minority students studying engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain professional engineering
  • Encourage and advice minority youth in their pursuit of an engineering career.
  • Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Blacks and other minorities in that profession
  • Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers
