Veterans Administration - GI Bill benefits at Kettering University

The Registrar’s Office oversees the forms, information and reporting services for VA-GI Bill benefits at Kettering University. Anyone with questions about receiving GI Bill benefits as reimbursement for Kettering expenses should contact:

Mike Mosher, Associate Registrar
Office of the Registrar

The VA programs vary, as there are various “chapters” of the GI Bill for: active duty, released from active duty, active reserve, inactive reserve, and dependents of military servicemen. At the start of each term, students' coursework is certified to the VA through entries in the VA’s database. New students starting their first term at Kettering first are “adopted” by the Kettering into the VA database.

Post-911 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

As of August 1st, 2009, there is an updated veterans’ benefit program for College Education named the Post-911 GI Bill (Chapter 33). There is also a "Yellow Ribbon" program that goes along with this bill.

Chapter 33 pays 100% tuition and fees for 3 years, as well as stipends for housing and books. Kettering is directly reimbursed by the VA for tuition and fees. Students receive a monthly stipend from the VA to assist with costs of housing and books.

Students should go to the VA website for complete and comprehensive information: http://www.gibill.va.gov/

If a student plans to utilize this program, they need to:

  1. Apply for it through the VA (Check the website and apply on-line).
  2. Notify the Associate Registrar that they've applied. Students will receive a “Certificate of Eligibility” letter from the VA, and Kettering needs to receive a copy of that letter for its records.

The Yellow Ribbon Program allows institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to fund (Chapter 33) tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and the VA will match the same amount as the institution. Kettering has entered into such an agreement with the VA.
