The Kettering Magazine Submission Guidelines

The goal of the Kettering Magazine is to communicate information to alumni, students, cooperative education partners and supporters of Kettering University in an interesting and readable fashion. Currently, the magazine is distributed to approximately 30,000 readers and provides authors an opportunity to reach thousands of industry leaders throughout the world. In addition, an interactive version as well as a turn-page PDF version of each issue are available.

All contributing authors receive two copies of the magazine in which their work appears. The Kettering Magazine welcomes submissions that focus on the following subjects:

  • alumni;
  • students;
  • research, technology, science and faculty;
  • cooperative education program partners;
  • student essays regarding their experience at Kettering University and participation in the co-op program;
  • educational subjects that connect directly to Kettering University;
  • letters to the editor; and
  • Charles F. Kettering.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine may also consider articles that do not fit readily into these subject areas, but have some connection to Kettering University and its supporters.  When submitting articles for consideration, please remember the following:

  • All stories must range from 500-1,500 words and are subject to editorial revision;
  • Photographs should accompany all submissions and include identification and correct spelling of individuals/equipment illustrated;
  • Writers must follow the Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual, most recent edition;
  • CD copies of articles, compatible with Word  97, 98 and 2000 must accompany each submission package;
  • Inclusion of a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) is necessary for return of material; and
  • The editor-in-chief makes all editorial decisions regarding material that may appear in the magazine. No Kettering faculty or staff member can make any determination to a third party about whether or not material will appear in an issue of the magazine—the editor-in-chief will make that decision alone based on issue priorities and the priorities of the President’s Office.
