Kettering University was invaded by monster-sized tractors on Friday, Dec. 12. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) student chapter at Kettering invited the giant pulling tractors to campus to show off their mechanical might.

The tractors and their owners, part of the National Tractor Pulling Association, hung out in the SAE garage in the lower level of the Mott Engineering and Science Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give students, staff and the general public a chance to view the tractors and ask questions. More 200 people visited the SAE garage, said Carl Block, SAE president, and coordinator for the event.

Block, a senior from Bad Axe, Mich., is majoring in mechanical engineering with an auto powertrain specialty. His co-op employer is TI Automotive of Caro. Block said he would like to indulge in the truck and tractor pulling hobby in the future. He is currently focused on smaller vehicles as part of the Kettering SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge Team.
