Professional organization awards $5,000
Kettering senior Matt Hilgendorf received one of only two national scholarships from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Matt Hilgendorf, 22, of Cedarburg, Wis., has been awarded one of two $5,000 Director's Scholarships from the national Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
Hilgendorf, a senior majoring in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering at Kettering, plans to graduate in April 2006. Ranked in the top one percent of both engineering programs, he is also a member of several honor societies and is the President of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society at Kettering. He is also the Past President of both the student chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
In Oct. 2004, Hilgendorf successfully completed the Certified Manufacturing Technologist exam; his first attempt. He is currently employed by the Kohler Co., Kohler, Wis., as a manufacturing and assembly engineering co-op student in the engine division. His senior thesis is focused on a low volume engine assembly development project. His interests include controls, automation, design for manufacture and assembly, high volume machining, and lean manufacturing systems.
After graduation Hilgendorf plans to remain in manufacturing. Future plans include pursuing dual master degrees in manufacturing management and business administration.
