Poet returns to Kettering
To honor the 100th birthday of Langston Hughes, Kettering University will present poet b.f. maiz on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
To honor the 100th birthday of Langston Hughes, Kettering University will present poet b.f. maiz on Wednesday, Jan. 22. "Portrait of Langston Hughes" is planned for 7 p.m. in Kettering's McKinnon Theatre. The event is free and open to the public. McKinnon Theatre is on the third floor of Kettering's Academic Building, located on the corner of Third and Chevrolet avenues.
maiz visited Kettering last year, working with students, presenting his original compositions and offering a variety of readings.
maiz has served as resident artist at more than a dozen universities. He has published five books of poetry and has spoken and presented his poetry at more than 200 colleges and universities. He has been the keynote speaker and presenter for the American Academy of Psychotherapists, the American Marriage and Family Therapists and the International Mentors Association. Honorary Doctor of Human Letter degrees have been bestowed upon him by Buena Vista University and the College of Waynesburg. He was awarded the prestigious Wesleyan Peace & Justice Award, held by only five other Americans.
Along with "Portrait of Langston Hughes," maiz will present original poetry. His appearance is sponsored by Kettering's offices of Student Affairs and Minority Affairs.
