A new 3,000-square foot pavilion is under construction in Kettering Park, and may be ready for Alumni Reunion Weekend May 30 to June 1, if everything goes according to plan, said Patricia Engle, director of Physical Plant. The pavilion is part of the improvements to the outdoor recreation facilities begun last year with the leveling of the Harris fields, and includes softball diamonds and a soccer pitch.

Engle said that when construction began in early March, the ground was so frozen that the crew had to use air hammers to start the foundation work.

Designed as a place for students, staff and friends of Kettering to gather out-of-doors, the pavilion will feature covered picnic space, ceiling fans and a sound system. The design will allow for expansion at a future date, said Engle. Funding for the pavilion was provided by the late Virginia Kettering.
