Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national Mathematics Honors Society, has initiated 31 new members into the Michigan Epsilon Chapter at Kettering University. To be eligible for initiation, students must have at least sophomore standing, rank in the top 35 percent of their class, achieve and overall grade average of 85 or higher in their mathematics courses, and be willing to participate in Chapter activities.

The Michigan Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon was installed at Kettering University on March 28, 1998. "Since installation, it has become the largest chapter in the nation, with approximately 75 active members in each section," said Brian McCartin, professor of Applied Mathematics.

The recent initiation ceremony featured the chapter's founding president Michael Fisackerly as keynote speaker. "He gave a brilliant and accessible talk on the topic 'Mathematics of Bowling Scores,'" McCartin said. "Michael was eminently qualified for such a talk since he has bowled both a 300 game as well as a three game combined score of 809," he added.
