Jared Hines, 22, stands out as a non-traditional undergrad.
Most of Kettering University's undergraduate students are single and between the ages of 18 and 23.
But Jared Hines, 22, stands out as a non-traditional undergrad. The senior from Parkersburg, W.Va., is the husband of Emilee, father of Jonathan, 3, and Matthew, 6 months, and a full-time student.
Hines, who is double majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, is double grateful that his professional co-opexperience is at Federal Mogul in Southfield.
"Federal Mogul provides health insurance for my family. That was huge for us," he said. "Federal Mogul offers one of the best deals for co-op students. Along with health insurance, I have a 401K plan and am receiving credit for service right from the start of my co-op experience. If I'm able to go full-time after I graduate, I'll start with five years service and three weeks vacation. They treat us like employees and take very good care of us," he added.
Hines learned about Kettering when he expressed an interested in automotive engineering. "I got to shadow an engineer at DuPont and was advised to look for a co-op school," he added.
The Hines family resides in Grand Blanc.
