Starting a Business Orientation
Course content: Readiness to be in business, market research and making sure there is market potential for your product or service, detail on the steps and process of starting a business, and will provide information and tools to start writing a business plan.
Designed for persons thinking of starting a business or in or early stages of startup, the new “Starting a Business Orientation” workshop is the first step for many in MI-SBTDC assistance, which may be followed by additional training or no-cost one-on-one counseling.

Fundamentals of Writing a Business Plan
Course content: Designed for individuals who want to increase their chances for successful self-employment, or business launch, this course covers business planning in detail. Specifics of marketing, finance, legal, regulatory issues, operations, information based planning and management are key components of this workshop. The first steps for creating a business plan draft will be included.

FastTrac® New Venture™
Course Content: Owning your own business is the American dream. Building it to withstand the test of time requires a unique set of tools. FastTrac® New Venture™, created by the Kaufman Foundation, is a comprehensive 30 hour course designed specifically for entrepreneurs in the early stages of business development. The course covers exploring entrepreneurship, identifying and meeting market needs, evaluating concept and plans for moving forward, develop a working knowledge of business fundamentals such as marketing, product/service development, management, and financials, building operational infrastructure, managing resources, networking and responding to change.
7 Weekly Sessions, Tuesday, September 29 through Tuesday, November 10, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Fee: $700 per person. Scholarship assistance is available for eligible dislocated workers up to 100%, and others up to 50%. Limited number of dislocated worker funding scholarships available, and class size will be limited to 24. Region 6 MI-SBTDC will maintain a list of all interested individuals and fill the class from the top of the list. To be placed on the list, call 810-762-9660. Individuals may move up the list as others ahead withdraw.

QuickBooks Pro Level I
For beginner and intermediate QuickBooks users to learn the core functions of QuickBooks Pro, from how to set up your company on QuickBooks to getting the information you need to run your business and manage your finances.

Fundamentals of Marketing a Business
Course content: This course presents practical applications of marketing concepts designed to grow small businesses. It covers basic marketing tools, market analysis and research, target marketing, competition, and key marketing implementation tools. A strategic, well planned approach to marketing is demonstrated, with several examples of effective hands-on marketing techniques. Focus is on the business’s customers – creating and keeping them.

Michigan Department of Treasury presents Tax Seminars for Small Business
The Michigan Department of Treasury is offering FREE seminars for new business owners regarding their rights and responsibilities relative to Michigan Sales, Use and Withholding taxes.
Course content: Designed for new businesses but useful for expanding knowledge of sales, use and withholding taxes. The technical aspects of the taxes as well as tax audits, assessments, collection procedures, appeal options, penalty waivers, and protection of your confidential tax information will be discussed.
