MECH-642 Design of Suspension Systems - P. Barak
This course presents the concepts, theory design and application of automotive suspensions systems. The functions and the type of suspension used in passenger cars and light trucks is reviewed. Basic suspension structures, configuration, geometry, Kinematics motion, static and dynamic load conditions are presented and discussed. Suspension Design Factors (SDF) and their effect on ride, handling and chassis design is presented. An algorithm for the complete design cycle of the suspension is presented. Active, semi-active and passive systems are discussed as well as Magic numbers in Suspension Design. Computer-Aided-Engineering tools such as ADAMS, sSNAP, and I-DEAS and analytical techniques are implemented for the design of a suspension system from concept to prototype. |
