Attention: Kettering Anti-virus Software Upgrade
During the past few months the IT department has been remotely upgrading the anti-virus software on Kettering owned and supported computers from the old eTrust to the new NOD32 software. While a majority of the machines have already been successfully upgraded, there remain many mobile machines such as laptops that are not remotely accessible for a variety of reasons. In order to upgrade these machines, we are asking that personnel please contact the Help Desk (helpdesk@kettering.edu — 810-237-8324) to schedule your upgrade. The typical time required is one hour. Promptness in having the upgrade applied will assure a greater level of protection for your computer and its contents. ~ Kettering IT Department

Antivirus Software Upgrade
The Information Technology department has been evaluating its current production antivirus solution, eTrust and its effectiveness over the past 3 years. As the internet has become a major communication/information vehicle and a critical part of doing business, it has also become a greater target for malware and other disruptive threats.

An evaluation and review of the various antivirus solutions available on the market was done in order to provide the best protection for Kettering computing resources. The decision was made to subscribe to a new software product that was deemed to be more effective in blocking the various categories of malware threats along with proving to be less processor intensive. The software package chosen was NOD32 developed by the ESET Company. After a 3 month testing period, NOD32 was given high marks against the other tested solutions on both meeting our requirements from a protection effectiveness standpoint along with meeting system administrative requirements. More information on the NOD32 solution.

The rollout of the NOD32 will start the week of November 30. We will schedule the upgrades by department in order to push the removal of the old software and installation of NOD32 remotely. For those that have laptops or net books that only connect via our wireless network, you will have to schedule when to bring in your machine to the Help Desk for a manual installation.

As always stay tuned to the IT website for future updates and details of new developments and upcoming events.
