- First, create a Template that will be your auto-reply message.
Click "File", then "New", then "Message"

- Type in a Subject line and a Message.

- Save the template by clicking "File", then "Save As", then "Template".

- Next, create your Thunderbird filter. Click on "Tools", then "Message Filters..."

- Click on "New"
- The conditions(s) could be anything listed in the first pulldown section. (This example auto-replies to a message when an e-mail is sent to an e-mail alias list you are on.) In the "Filter name:" field, type in a filer name. Under "For incoming message that Match any/all of the following", select "To or cc", "contains", then type in the address of the alias you are on. Then, for the "Perform these actions:" section, select "Reply with Template", then select your template created in a prior step. Click "OK". Exit your Message Filters manager.
