Using the Wireless Network for Accessing the Windows Student Storage Server

Students may now access their Windows Home Directory via the Wireless Network. This is the same directory that is accessible in the Windows XP labs via the "S" drive or "My Documents". This service is not available from the Thompson Hall Network.

Before following the instructions below you will need to establish a VPN connection; see the following helpsheet; Client VPN Setup, for how to setup the VPN client.

How to Connect a drive from My Computer or Windows Explorer

  1. To connect a drive from My Computer, click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Explore.
  2. To connect a drive from Windows Explorer, right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Map Network Drive.
  4. In the Drive box, click a drive letter.
  5. In the Folder box, type the UNC path for the server and shared resource in the following format: "\\kbod\users".
  6. Click "Different user name"
  7. In the "User Name:" Window enter: "kettering\(your user name)"  EXP: "kettering\smit1234"
  8. In the "Password Window" enter your Windows Lab Password.
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Finish. 

From here you will have to browse to your home directory. Note: Students are placed in the A Section or B Section folders based on the information in Banner at the time a students account is created. It will not reflect any changes made after account creation.

Disconnecting a mapped network drive:

  1. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
  2. Right-click the icon for the mapped drive.
  3. Click Disconnect.
