Channel 2- REC CTR Rec Center channel

All Campus Safety users are expected to use Channel 1 (SAFETY) for normal day to day communications. You may change to Channel 2 to contact a non Campus Safety user, then return to Channel 1.

All non Campus Safety users are expected to use Channel 2 (MAINT) for normal day to day communications. You may change to channel 1 to contact the Safety Desk or a Safety officer, then return to Channel 2.

BYPASS channel is Only to be used in an emergency situation where both repeaters have failed. It will provide users direct unit to unit communication without the use of a repeater. Usable range and reliability will be greatly reduced.

Channel 1 is the Emergency Channel! All Emergency traffic should use Channel 1.

Please note that "BASE" will not monitor Channel 2! If you need to contact "BASE", change to Channel 1!

Radio system operating procedures

  • Operate your radio on the proper channel.
  • Before you press the transmit button, Listen to the channel to make sure the channel is clear. Don't interfere with traffic in progress.
  • After you press the transmit button, pause a second or two before speaking. This gives the repeater time to respond to your radio. If you don't do this, the first second or two of your transmission may be "cut off".
  • Hold your radio an inch or two from your mouth when transmitting. Speak in a normal tone of voice.
  • Listen for the "beep". ( Single "beep" on the Safety repeater, double "beep" on the Maintenance repeater.) This tells you that the other user has released their transmit button and is able to hear your reply.
  • Hold your radio with the antenna "vertical" for best results.
  • Radios are to be used for business use only! Our systems are licensed in the Industrial/Business Land Mobile Radio Service, and may be monitored by the FCC at any time. Keep your transmissions short, and speak clearly.
  • Transmission of music is a violation of FCC rules, and will not be tolerated on any Kettering University business radio system. please, don't do it!
