Panhellenic CouncilWelcome to Kettering! As you arrive on campus, there are a few things you should know. First, your friends from home aren't going to completely understand what you're going to go through. Second, shower sandals are a must in the dorms. Third, being a member of a sorority at Kettering isn't anything like the stereotypes you've heard about. I came to college set on never joining a sorority. It took me a couple days to get used to being around so many guys. After thinking about things more, I realized that I missed being around girls. It's interesting walking into a class and being the only girl in there. I missed not having someone to help me pick out what to wear or talk with late at night. I missed the support system of female friends that I had left behind when I came to Kettering. I heard about recruitment and decided I would go check out what everything was like. I still wasn't sure that I wanted to join a sorority but I figured checking it out wouldn't hurt. Now let's fast forward a little bit. This is my last academic term at Kettering University. I can honestly tell you that I can't imagine what the past few years would be like without my friends and my sisters. I have always had a familiar face around when I needed one. I knew people in all of my classes just by what house they were associated with. I grew up and learned a lot about myself and the people that I want to be surrounded by. At Kettering, the members of the sororities strive for academics. They participate in community service events and perform philanthropic work. They also play sports and attend social functions. Also, a great deal of the leadership positions in Kettering clubs and organizations are held by members of the Greek community. I'm inviting you to come and check out what it's all about to be a member of a sorority. There will be an ice cream social held first week Wednesday (7/12/06). It will be sponsored by Kettering's Panhellenic Association (the governing body for female fraternity life on campus) and will be in the Thompson Hall Lobby. Here, you will have the opportunity to meet the eight unique women, who are members of the Panhellenic Association. You will hear about recruitment and any questions that you may have can be answered. I'm asking you to come to this event with an open mind and learn more about Kettering's sorority life and the opportunities available to you. If you think you know that you are not going to join a sorority, you should still come and listen anyways. It's free ice cream and you may change your mind I hope that you consider exploring the Greek Life at Kettering University. If you have any questions about recruitment, or Panhellenic and Greek life, please feel free to contact me. Good luck during the remainder of your collegiate career! Sincerely, Megan Mulligan President, Kettering University Panhellenic Association mull3485@kettering.edu |
