Biochemistry

Biochemistry focuses on life at the molecular level. It’s where some of the most exciting developments in science are happening—from new ways to grow food to new cures based on an individual’s genetic code. At Kettering, Biochemistry majors experience

A Student

  • a truly interdisciplinary major that makes the most of Kettering’s expertise in science and engineering (after all, we’re home to some of the best engineering programs in the nation);
  • advanced laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment—the kind that are usually “off-limits” to undergraduate Biochem majors at big universities; and
  • early and continuous professional experience through our co-op education program, which offers so much more than a typical internship or part-time job. You get connected to co-op assignments that put you in the thick of ground-breaking innovations and product development.

Emerging from this cutting-edge, interdisciplinary program, students join a profession engaged in terrific projects that tease the brain and change the world. As a biochemist, you might

  • invent vaccines that fight cancer,
  • engineer resilient strains of wheat and rice to combat world hunger, or
  • develop new methods of fermentation to improve wine and beer production.

Or, use your degree to pursue a career in medicine—about 50 percent of our Biochemistry majors go on to med school.

You may also minor in Biochemistry, Chemistry or pursue a specialty in Pre-Med—a choice that will enhance your marketability in the real world.
