Acoustics Minor
Acoustics is the science of sound. A huge number of scientific problems and disciplines fit into this definition, including noise and vibration control, electroacoustics (audio, loudspeaker and microphone design), medical ultrasonics (using sound to kill cancer cells without surgery) and more.

At Kettering, you can pursue a minor in Acoustics or, if you’re an Applied Physics major, a concentration in Acoustics. For the minor, you’ll complete 16 credits—and get the chance to create your own vibrations with a research project. Some examples include
- mapping the vector sound intensity field around a tuning fork,
- acoustical study of the Djembe (African Hand Drum), or
- modeling a small room for acoustical measurements.
