Travel to Canada

A Canadian visa is required for some countries' citizens.  An Application for a Visitor Visa can be obtained in the International Office (Campus Center, Room 3-901) or on the Canadian Consulate in Detroit website http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas_e/html

If your U.S. visa has expired, you may re enter the U.S. from Canada if:

You are currently in legal immigration status in the U.S.

You have not traveled to a country other than Canada.

You did not stay in Canada longer than 30 days (ask for a receipt at the port of entry showing date of arrival), and your visa does not carry the notation  "212 (d)(3)(a)."

You did not apply for a new U.S. visa at the U.S. Embassy.

You are not a national/citizen of a country identified as state sponsors of terrorism by the U.S. Dept. of State.

Any non-immigrant who chooses to apply for a new U.S. visa in Canada at the U.S. Embassy and is refused a new U.S. visa or has an application for a new U.S. visa pending will not be able to re-enter the U.S.
