Ken BainOct 4th-5th, Ken Bain Visits Flint to Discuss What the Best College Teachers Do

Author of the best-selling book What the Best College Teachers Do, Ken Bain, will be making a visit to Flint on October 4th and 5th. He will be visiting each of the Quad Pod (Kettering, Mott, UM-Flint, and Baker) campuses individually, speaking at a large dinner event and speaking to academic leaders at breakfast. The schedule for Kettering faculty and staff: 

10/4 Thursday afternoon, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm, Ken Bain will be at Kettering for a lunch with faculty members to discuss his book “What the Best College Teachers Do”.  Please join him in the Crib-a-thon (2-225 AB).   One hundred lunches will be served.  

10/4 Thursday evening, 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm, Bain will speak at a dinner event at UM-Flint’s Michigan Rooms for all members of the Quad Pod institutions. Each institution has 70 seats. Register online.

10/5 Friday morning, 8:30 am – 10:00 am, Bain will host a Leadership Breakfast Discussion at Mott Community College’s Center for Teaching and Learning for invited leaders.

Schedule of Events for Thursday (10/4) afternoon:

12:30 – 2:30 Dr. Ken Bain will lead a discussion as author of the book “What the Best College Teachers Do” and his newest book “What the Best College Students Do” by Harvard Publishing. This talk will be of interest to teaching faculty and lunch will be provided by CETL in the Crib-a-thon.

2:00 – 3:00 All-campus Celebration of Excellence begins by viewing student poster presentations displayed in the Fifth Floor Hallways of the Campus Center. Light refreshments will be served by the celebration committee.

3:00 – 5:00 All-campus Celebration of Excellence continues with a formal awards ceremony to include teaching and service awards from across the university. This event will be of interest to faculty, staff and students and will be hosted in the International Room.

6:00pm - 8:00pm Dinner tickets to dine with Dr. Ken Bain at the UM-Flint campus are still available to 49 more people from Kettering. Other dinner invitees include members of the Quad Pod campuses and Michigan-based higher education teaching centers for a total of 300 expected attendees. Oct 5th, 8:30am – 10:00am A Leadership Breakfast will be held with Dr. Ken Bain at Mott Community College. This breakfast will bring together 40 academic leaders from the Quad Pod Universities.
