Description:
Dr. Douglas E. Melton, associate professor of Electrical Engineering
PhD. From the University of Wisconsin.
Melton feels Kettering students are inquisitive, mature, and perseverant. When asked what distinguishes Kettering students from students at other universities he said, "Kettering students may have a greater sense of direction and purpose in their educational pursuits." He thinks that most Kettering students are here because they see the connection between education and a professional career more clearly and wish to have greater access to faculty members during their educational process.
He first wished to teach at Kettering because he "appreciated the fact that Kettering was connected to industry and thought an applied approach to topics would be understood and appreciated by both faculty and students." What he enjoys most about teaching at Kettering is the close interaction with students in both the laboratory and classroom, particularly the small class size which leads to conversations about other related topics during demonstrations or laboratory experiments.
His advice for prospective students is to "choose a university that suits you." He feels that "Kettering is for those who appreciate contact with their instructors and a hands-on approach, as evidenced by the number of laboratories, the co-op program, etc."
Hidden talents and outside interests: When Melton is not teaching Kettering students he channels the rock star side of his personality. He enjoys all types of music, both listening and playing and he especially enjoys loud and raucous guitar music.
