Judy (Juan) Chang

Judy (Juan) Chang
Shijiazhuang, China

Advisor: Dr. Timothy Cameron & Dr. Yaomin Dong

Department:
Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
Study the theory of noise, vibration, and harshness in shifting mechanisms, and the phenomenon of friction and heat transfer. Develop a computational model for analysis of the effects of temperature change to AFT (Automatic Transmission Fluid) and to the dynamic responses of the system. Apply the study and the method to automotive engineering designs.

Adam Firestone

Adam Firestone
Lincoln, NE

Advisor: Dr. Janet Brelin-Fornari

Department:
Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
Crash simulation of vehicle restraint systems using a deceleration sled. Anthropomorphic test devices are used to study the effectiveness of varying seat configurations and belt positions. The mechanical integrity of the restraint system during impact, as well as the effect of the system on the ATD, are being examined.

Lokesh Mehta

Lokesh Mehta
Bhopal, India

Advisor: Dr. Bassem Ramadan

Department:
Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
Using computational and experimental tools to reduce engine exhaust emissions and to develop new systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines.

Gladys Gabriela Morin

Gladys Gabriela Morin
Caracus, Venezuela

Advisor: Dr. Gianfranco DiGiuseppe

Department:
Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
Using computational and experimental tools to study and analyze the behavior of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells at high temperatures and under realistic operating conditions. Mathematical models are developed in order to predict the SOFC's electro-chemical performance. Several factors are included such as material, geometries and dimensions to determine how they affect the performance characteristics.

Paul Ribai

Paul Ribai
Lapeer, MI

Advisor: Dr. Janet Brelin-Fornari

Department:  Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
NHTSA has been developing a side impact child seat safety requirement. The fixture under consideration uses a HYGE sled.  Since most child seat manufacturers do not have a HYGE sled, I will show equivalent test data using a deceleration sled and fixture.

Pankaj Vazirani

Pankaj Vazirani
Mumbai, India

Advisor:  Dr. Bassem Ramadan

Department:  Mechanical Engineering

Project Description:
Quantifying and analyzing air flow in intake systems for internal combustion engines. Air flow motion such as swirl and tumble can influence fuel evaporation and mixing, especially in directly injected engines. This project will utilize CFD to analyze and quantify air flow properties to optimize the design of intake systems.
