The Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering (IME) is the home of the Industrial Engineering program and is the lead department for manufacturing at Kettering University. In addition, IME offers Master of Science in Engineering degrees in the fields of Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering (expected start in Fall 2012).
Kettering University's IE program is the best in the country! It has been rated #1 among non-Ph.D. granting universities by U.S. News and World Report for many years.
Our laboratories, like the Ergonomics, Polymer Processing, Robotics & CIM labs (just to name a few) are nothing short of amazing!
Industrial Engineering is unique among the engineering professions, because we work with people as an integral part of each system. At Kettering our students have professional working experience thoughout the program. This results in a truly capable graduate.
Our faculty are also experienced engineers and educators. In addition to the automotive industry, faculty members have experience in aerospace, defense, and electronics. We have branched out into services, supply chain and logistics, and healthcare systems. We are men and women representing a strong diversity of backgrounds and personal experience. Ultimately, our success is measured by the achievements of our students both current and alumni.
The work of IME faculty members is not confined to the campus. Efforts of faculty range from projects in the Flint community, such as the recent senior capstone project to streamline operations for the Genesee County Probate Court, to regional, national, and international endeavors. IME faculty continue to work building partnerships with faculty and institutions in Germany and Mexico. We have just welcomed our first Brazilian students into the department.
IME students have the opportunity to study abroad at Reutlingen University in Germany, Reutlingen is a medieval city just a short distance south of Stuttgart. Students spend the Fall term of their Senior year studying abroad.
