Joe Flaig is a 2011 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Joe has since earned a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Kettering and is in the process of earning his MBA as well. Joe is a role model for young alumni giving back to Kettering.  He has never stopped working for Kettering even after he graduated.  Joe has been an Alumni Speaker and Tour Guide at two of the 2013 Dog Days of Summer events, was a 2013 Senior BBQ Alumni Speaker, assisted as a Group Presenter and Tour Guide at Discover Kettering and Prep for Success events, was the 2013 Bob Wolforth Memorial Scholarship Presenter, served as an Alumni Greeter at the June 2013 Kettering Commencement and served as a Kettering Alumni Representative at the 2012 Flint Back to the Bricks event.  Joe is also the current Treasurer to the Southeast Michigan Alumni Regional Network which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2014.

Joe is currently employed at the Nissan Technical Center North America (NTCNA) as an Engine Test Engineer for Nissan’s Powertrain Division. His previous co-op experience includes Honda North America, Borg Warner and Franklin Products Inc. While at Kettering, Joe was a Resident Advisor and was a member of the Kettering Robots, the Fire Birds Car Club and the Mudboggers. He served as a Student Ambassador and Tour Guide, Resident Life Student Coordinator and was President of the Trap and Skeet Club. He is an active member of the Heart of the Shepherd Lutheran Church in Howell, Mich. One of Joe’s greatest memories at Kettering was joining the Sigma Chi Fraternity (Zeta Theta A Chapter). He is now the Greater Detroit Area Sigma Chi Alumni President and a Sigma Chi Alumni Facilitator. Joe recently purchased his first home in Howell and the proximity to campus allows him to be actively involved with Kettering and its students. 

Joe’s time spent at Kettering University provided him with some of his greatest memories and friends and he hopes to encourage other alumni to give back to the school that has given him so much.
