Recently, the Iota Epsilon chapter of Alpha Phi at Kettering University raised more than $1000 for the Alpha Phi Foundation during their Summer 2012 Cardiac Care Week. This year, Cardiac Care Week consisted of an Alphatraz event each weekday during lunch and a Phi-athlon event over the weekend.
During Alphatraz, the ladies of Alpha Phi "arrested" different students and faculty each day, putting them in Alphatraz jail in the pool. Participants had to raise bail money by getting their friends and passers-by to donate to get them released. The top participants were: Scott Hoffman of Sigma Chi, Sean Gray of Pi Kappa Alpha, Preston Dufresne of Theta Xi, and Doc K (Professor Kowalski).
The other event of Cardiac Care Week was the Phi-athlon. This triathlon was hosted locally at the Kettering University Recreation Center and consisted of teams of three students participating in a swimming, running, and biking challenge. Our winners received a variety of prizes donated by our sponsors.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this year's Cardiac Care Week successful! A special thanks goes out to the event sponsors: Kettering University bookstore, Buffalo Wild Wings, Fuddruckers, The Lunch Place, Hoffman's Deco Deli, and Blackstone's Pub & Grill.
The Alpha Phi Foundation has a mission to raise funds and awareness for Cardiac Care. The Foundation supports programs and research that study heart disease in women – specifically its symptoms, its treatment and its prevention.
