As you may know, Kettering University was once owned by the automotive giant General Motors. While that is no longer is true, we are very proud of our heritage and of the rich history of Flint the birthplace of the automotive industry. After your visit to campus, you may wish to take advantage of some of the area attractions, many related to this history.

June Commencement

 

Kettering University will host the next Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, June 8, 2013.  The 11 a.m. event is free and open to the public in the Connie and Jim John Recreation Center in Flint.

Graduation & Commencement Information

 

Graduation is the actual awarding of a degree.  Degrees are awarded after each term, March, June, September and December.  The graduation and diploma date are always the last date of the graduating term.

Commencement is the ceremony honoring degree candidates and those who have already received degrees. Commencement is held twice during the 2012-2013 academic year.  Students who graduate in March and June are invited to the June ceremony. Students who graduate in September and December are invited to the December ceremony.

Effective January 1, 2013, commencement will be held only once per year.  The 2013 commencement ceremony will be June 8, 2013.

Commencement Facts

 

  • Connie and Jim John Recreation Center, Flint, Mich. 
  • No tickets required to attend Commencement 
  • The event is free and open to the public
  • Allow 1 1/2 hours for the ceremony 
  • Presiding: Kettering University President Robert McMahan
  • Grand Marshal: Dr. Jim Huggins, Faculty Senate Moderator
  • Parking is free and available in all campus parking lots 
  • Information Center is in the Great Court, Campus Center, 8:30-10:45 a.m.
  • There is no graduation rehearsal
  • Faculty will host a light breakfast, International Room, fifth floor, Campus Center, 8:30 -10 a.m.
  • Recreation Center doors open at 9 a.m. for visitors to arrive and be seated 
  • Faculty and staff assemble for the Processional between 10-10:55 a.m. in the third floor, Recreation Center 
  • Graduates assemble on the first floor of the Campus Center (just outside BJ's Lounge) between 10:30-10:55 a.m.  
  • Formal processional begins at 11 a.m.
