End of Term Dinner - June 12, 2009

On June 12, SAC members celebrated by having an end of the term dinner at Brickstreet in Grand Blanc. The group had a fantastic term doing 10 events in about 9 weeks.

SAC presents a check to the Flint Children's Museum - June 10, 2009

Kettering’s Student Alumni Council (SAC) presented check for $720 to Kim Yecke, director of the Children’s Museum June 10.  The money was raised by SAC through selling their famous “Undefeated since 1919” Kettering Football t-shirts. Each year they fundraise to benefit the Children’s Museum. To date, they have donated $2,145 (including this year’s donation of $720). 

Student Alumni Council is a student organization that is the link between students and alumni. SAC is designed to encourage students to interact with alumni through various activities, which include presentations, alumni days, and Sr. III dinners. In addition, SAC's purpose is to provide its members with advertising, public speaking, teamwork and leadership experience. SAC also provides its membership with professional workshops to enhance leadership abilities.

End of Term Meeting - June 5, 2009

June 5 ended SAC's last meeting of the term. It had been rumored that Mike Decello could eat 15 White Castle burgers. So president, Matt Schneider, took him up on the challenge.

Senior Luau - June 3, 2009

On June 3 over 50 seniors gathered at Dr. Liberty's for a last hurrah before graduation. Dr. Liberty opens his home to congratulate those seniors who will be graduating in June. Sheri Hickok '99 Executive Technical Assistant to the Group Vice President of Global Engineering of General Motors was the speaker for the evening and gave students tips on how to make his or her own brand. She said hard work alone won't get you a great position but doing the hard assignments and being open and flexible will certainly help. (comments based on the book "Corporate Warfare")

SE Michigan Chapter Dinner - May 28, 2009

On May 28 at the 45th Annual SE MI Chapter dinner located at Silver Gardens of Southfield, SAC recognized their past speakers who have given of their time and effort to Kettering students.

John Rahie '75 - May 21, 2009

On May 21 SAC hosted John Rahie who is the Executive Director of Global Investigations for General Motors Corporation based in Detroit, Michigan, and also with the General Motors Legal Staff specializing in compliance and ethics matters spoke to students. In his 30 years with General Motors Legal Staff, he has held a number of positions including General Counsel of GM Europe based in Zurich. He has extensive experience in compliance and corporate governance issues and serves as a member of GM's Senior Management Compliance Committee. He also serves as the GM Global Process Leader for Special Investigations and Anti-Corruption Activities, coordinating sensitive “white-collar” investigations for GM throughout the world and directing their FCPA and anti-corruption compliance programs. Rahie received his BEE from Kettering in 1975 and holds a JD from Michigan State University School of Law and an LLM from Wayne State University. He is a member of the Michigan State Bar and the American Bar Association.

Leadership Adventure - May 20, 2009

On  May 20 the members of the Student Alumni Council went on a leadership adventure at Playland Park. No one crashed vehicles and we all left in one piece.

Russ Ebeid '62, Guardian Glass - May 13, 2009

Guardian Glass headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, operating in 21 countries on 5 continents with 19,000 employees, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of float glass and fabricated glass products. SAC had the opportunity to meet with Russ Ebeid '62, who is the current president of Guardian Glass on May 13. Ebeid also received an Honorary Doctorate from Kettering in July 2008.

The lobby of Guardian Glass in Auburn Hills.SAC also had the opportunity to visit the first glass plant in Carleton, Michigan which opened in 1970 on May 28th.  The group saw how glass in mixed, heated, formed, cooled, cut and picked up by Robots that get it ready for shipping.

Jeff Henderson '88 Presentation - May 7, 2009

SAC hosted Jeff Henderson '88 CFO of Cardinal Health on May 7. Over 90 students, faculty and staff gathered to hear the latest trends in the medical field. Cardinal Health is ranked 19 on the Fortune 500 and employs more than 40,000 people in 5 continents, producing more than 7,200 clinical technologies and 14,200 medical technologies.

SAC Graduate School Fair - April 30, 2009

Kettering students stopped by to check out over 25 graduate programs around the state, network and eat some pizza. This is the seventh year that Student Alumni Council has hosted the "Grad Fair." Approximately 165 students took advantage of this opportunity.

SAE Alumni Reception - April 22, 2009

SAC was among the guests at the SAE Alumni Reception held April 22 at the Detroit Athletic Club. Over 100 alumni and guests attended to network and hear an update on the University.
