In 1982, Kettering University (formerly GMI Engineering & Management Institute) became a private institution independent from General Motors Corporation.

While student tuition provides substantial income, it does not meet all University needs. Through their gifts, alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations have helped us grow and meet the needs of our primary stakeholders - our students.
Areas for funding include equipment, facility renovation, program support and student scholarships. State-of-the-art equipment, facilities, teaching and scholarship dollars help attract students to Kettering University and also keep them here through their five-year program.
