Kettering University Donor Recognition Societies and Giving Clubs
Over the years, Kettering University, formerly General Motors Institute, has provided its students with the finest academic laboratory facilities and hands-on education of any technical school in the country. The contributions of alumni and friends of the University play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuation of this vital legacy. By offering state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and academic scholarships to the nation’s brightest students, Kettering University will maintain and nurture its heritage of academic excellence and professional opportunity.
President’s Council

Kettering University/GMI established the President’s Council in 1983 to formally thank and recognize donors for their contributions to the school. This Council recognizes those supporters who have given or pledged $10,000 or more to Kettering University. The Council is named in honor of the five former presidents, and the current president, who have guided Kettering University to its current position as one of the preeminent cooperative educational institutions in the world. Recognition in the President’s Council is at one of the following six levels:
Stanley R. Liberty - A gift or pledge of $5,000,000 or above
James E.A. John - A gift or pledge of $1,000,000 - $4,999,999
William B. Cottingham - A gift or pledge of $100,000 - $999,999
Harold P. “Dusty” Rodes - A gift or pledge of $50,000 - $99,999
Guy R. Cowing - A gift or pledge of $25,000 - $49,999
Albert J. Sobey - A gift or pledge of $10,000 – $24,999
Heritage Circle

Kettering University created the Heritage Circle in 1995 to honor alumni and friends who have arranged a gift to the University by will, trust, gift annuity, insurance policy, pooled income fund, retirement plan or IRA, or otherwise through their estate. Membership in the Heritage Circle is a way for Kettering University to thank those alumni and friends during their lifetime. Members’ names are engraved on the donor wall in the Campus Center and listed in the annual report to stakeholders. Contact Sue Weiss at 810-762-9768 for more information.
The following represent ways in which an individual can qualify for membership in the Heritage Circle:
Will or Trust - Name Kettering University as beneficiary of a percentage or dollar amount of your assetsGift Annuity - Give a gift to Kettering University in exchange for a lifetime of income for you and/or a loved one
Charitable Trust - Give a gift of a trust and receive a lifetime of income for you and/or a loved one
Retirement Plan or IRA - Name Kettering University as beneficiary of all or a percentage of your IRA or retirement plan
Boss Kettering Society

The Boss Kettering Society was established to recognize organizations that have supported Kettering University with contributions of equipment and revenue valued at $25,000 or more. Partnerships recognized by the Boss Kettering Society are important resources and help the University provide highly trained and educated leaders of tomorrow.
